Lillie's Journey Home

Lillie is coming home. We will attempt to update it daily, but there are no promises! Please keep Lillie, Gill, and T. Walker in your thoughts and prayers.....and please say a little prayer for mom and dad who are on the frontlines of boy-rearing for three weeks. Also, check out the dropshots link on the right hand side of the blog for more photos.

Travel Approval and Current Plans

We leave August 16th.....finally some dates. Travel Approval was received this past Tuesday and our Consulate appointments were finalized on Thursday. We were lucky on our travel plans. Our travel agent had on hold some seats using our American Airlines miles and the guess on the plans held up. So we go DFW to Tokyo to Beijing to Nanning to Guilin to Guangzhou to Hong Kong to Tokyo to DFW....whew! We will be in 5 hotels and cross 13 time zones (I think). Everyone talks about how hot it will be, but honestly, we have been in training here in Rockwall for the past 6 weeks. The high temps of 92 in Nanning will be welcome compared to the 100+ temps here, but is it a different kind of heat??:)
We had a little party for Lillie's First Birthday....nothing huge, but we wanted to do something proactive honoring her first year. The past year is 100% of her life in an orphanage, so, by the time she is 20, this past year will only be 5% of her life, the other 95% she will have been surrounded by a family, big brothers, other Chinese sisters, cousins, church friends, school friends, soccer friends, and on and on and on...
We arrive back in Dallas on September 2nd.

Ummm....add about 200% humidity to 92 degrees and it is way worse not to mention the smog. You will walk outside and feel like you can't breathe! But just having Lillie in your arms will make the weather not seem so bad! Love, The Byrd

    Wade,
We are so excited. You guys are leaving one day before we did and arriving one day later than we did just one year ago. We are so excited because we know exactly what your next year will be like ...and it is a blessing beyond measure!
